A subpoena is an order from a judge to appear at a hearing or produce documents. If you get a subpoena and deliver it properly, the judge will require the person to appear.
A subpoena duces tecum requires a person to testify at the hearing and bring certain documents.

Send a copy of your request to each of the other parties participating in your case. If you are requesting documents, describe the documents you want in detail. Be clear about the subject of the documents, the approximate date or date range, and the likely location of the records.
